About myself
Hi, I’m Kyle Bloom, a developer who enjoys building practical tools, experimenting with new technologies, and contributing to open source.
My work sits at the intersection of curiosity and utility. I like solving small problems in slightly unconventional ways and turning them into something usable.
What I Do
I primarily work with technologies like Python, JavaScript, and Rust, building projects that range from small utilities to more fully featured applications.
I’m especially interested in:
- Developer tooling and automation
- Open-source contributions
- Web technologies
- Systems that simplify complex workflows
I tend to focus on projects that solve real problems.
How I Work
I believe in the long haul and make decisions based on how they effect the development and long term maintenance of a project. I like to keep things simple, functional, and iterative.
- Build quickly, then refine
- Prefer clarity over cleverness
- Learn by doing, not just reading
- Share work openly and improve through feedback
Outside of Code
Music
As a hobby instrumentalist, I have learned to play bass guitar, piano, and upright bass, as an outlet of creativity. The challenge and dedication needed to learn a new piece is fulfilling. I appreciate the self-expression that music allows, and am particularly interested in playing rock and metal, but am drawn to the jazz and funk stylings of Victor Wooten and Jaco Pastorius.
Games
For many years I have enjoyed table-top role-playing games. I find value in strategic thinking, competition, and social-interaction garnered from this hobby. I am currently playing a monk who uses drunken boxing to disable his enemies.
